George Main & Rupert Clarke
Group 1 racing takes us to Caulfield and Randwick this weekend.
Up in Sydney, the George Main Stakes is a big time races whilst Melbourne's major race is the 1400m Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
It's not a Group 1, but The Shorts up at Royal Randwick also whets the appetite when it comes to seeing the gun horses.
Here are a few to back this weekend across the board.
GEORGE MAIN STAKES How do they beat magical mare Verry Elleegant? There's not much rain predicted but any that does fall only ensures she's an even better hope.
On dry ground, Kolding could give her a race but I struggle to see anything knocking over this powerful and tenacious superstar.
Bet - VERRY ELLEEGANT $2.20
SIR RUPERT CLARKE STAKES I interviewed New Zealand racing guru Michael Guerin for The Field - Horsepower this week and he lit me up when he agreed that Kiwi mare Probabeel was an each way special.
She's a gun over these 1400m trip and loves Caulfield. Yes, Behemoth, Beau Rossa and others are seriously talented but this is a serious mare and I'm more than happy to be with her in the Group 1.
Bet - PROBABEEL $5.50
Here are a few elsewhere...
CAULFIELD R2 N4 PANDEMIC $4.40 - how can we not? Seriously, he is a good horse. R3 N1 HERESY $2.30 - talented filly yet to miss a drum. Just better than these with D. Oliver aboard. R5 N5 FORBES $8 - has form around Anamoe. Give him a go on that alone. R8 N2 PROBABEEL $5.50 - love the horse, love the map, love the price. Get on! RANDWICK R5 N4 AMARELINHA $11 - stable expects a top three run. Worth a go first up. R7 N7 VERRY ELLEEGANT $2.20 - best horse in Oz gets back to her winning ways. R8 N5 ROTHFIRE $5 - brilliant trial, hugely talented horse with sheer power. HASTINGS R7 N1 IMPERATRIZ $2.40 - my astute Kiwi friend says get on so I get on.
Quiet weekend on the Harness front but here's a winner to send off Saturday evening.
BALLARAT R5 N9 MACH DAN $2.60 - resuming but showed last season he's a real top line talent.
