SOG 3.0 Tips
Ballarat Cup night was large.
Classic night produced a few pearlers.
And last night's Great Southern Star showcased the hardiness and versatility of our stock.
But, tonight is the showcase - the true jewel in the Victorian crown.
Here's who we're with on A G Hunter Cup night in all the major races.
BEST OF THE NIGHT:
R1 N10 YOUAREMY SUNSHINE $3.20
Easily the class horse of this race.
I was against him last week, expecting to see some second-up syndrome but he was immense - absolutely immense! Another tough task thanks to drawing poorly but I'm confident he can circle them and be too tough and too classy.
THE PURE STEEL
R5 N2 OUR MILLIONAIRE $3
When in front, this fella is a quality animal who gives anything something to seriously chase.
The horse I mention is Our Millionaire, a slow developer but ripening into a genuine FFA/Country Cups contender on his best form.
Lead should be there comfortably and from there he's easily the horse to beat.
4YO BONANZA ROCK N ROLL DOO $13 + ACT NOW $5
I know why but I still cannot agree with Act Now being the price he has been all week. He's been a monster since turning three and has shown enough to me to suggest he could be the one to win a Bonanza and a Chariots of Fire and have a genuine crack at a Miracle Mile.
He's good enough to overcome the draw, especially if Rock N Roll Doo injects the speed trainer Mick Stanley says he will. Kimble will kick up hard, but if Rock N Roll Doo can cross, then he can win at odds.
Back both horses and hope, although I'll also be happy to see Bondi Lockdown knock them both off.
LADYSHIP CUP
R8 N10 FAIRY TINKABELL $5.50
I'm chancing my arm again and taking on the traditional Melton pattern in the big miles races but I've gone searching for value in this Mares Group 1.
Spellbound's best is arguably behind her whilst Maajida cops a poor outside gate. Off N Gone jumps right up in class and Rogue Wave is first time up against the seasoned mares.
Therefore, maybe Team McCarthy has snuck this consistent mare in under the radar so she's the one I'll be with on a small basis.
HUNTER CUP R7 N1 KING OF SWING $2.30
When have we seen them knock off King of Swing when he leads, rolls along and keeps them chasing? I believe the correct answer is never since he joined Cobbity Equine from W.A.
He's an almost certain leader here, possibly very easily and even with a 90% Lochinvar Art breezing up against him, I think he can hold them off by sprinting hard for 1,000m and keeping 'Arty' running and Amazing Dream in behind - although she will get mighty close on her best.
